Propane Refill

Propane plays a vital role in everyday living, whether you’re firing up the grill for a weekend barbecue, heating your home during colder months or powering essential appliances in your RV. To ensure your tank stays full and your plans stay on track, Tractor Supply offers professional propane refills at many of our locations – find out of your nearby store offers these services by calling ahead.

Stay Fueled and Ready For Life Out Here

As a versatile gas, propane can fuel a wide range of equipment, from patio fireplaces to pool heaters. Because it stores in conveniently portable tanks, it’s a great option for powering many activities, including camping and outdoor cooking. Here’s what you should know about these services:

Reliable Power for a Range of Equipment

Whether running a small stove, gas grill or whole-house generator, we are proud to offer refills for your cylinder. Choose a large, 20-pound model for a freestanding or cart-style grill for backyard barbecues, or opt for a smaller container for a portable flat-top grill or griddle for camping or tailgating.

Hassle-Free, Professional Process

Our process works by bringing your cylinder to your local store during regular hours. After being notified, a trained propane handler will meet you in the dispensing area and then inspect your tank, ensuring it’s properly certified and up to safety standards before filling it to the legal limit. Once verified, we will fill the tank to the maximum legal limit and ensure it’s properly secured for transport. For your protection, we ask that you stay 25 feet away from the handler during the refilling process.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Propane Refills

What types of cylinders can be refilled?

Most locations can refill portable tanks for propane grills, heating equipment, generators and other appliances, plus stationary units for RVs, homes and businesses. Always call ahead to confirm availability at your location, as refill times and prices may vary.

What precautions should I take to transport and store propane safely?

Follow regulations regarding how many propane tanks you can carry in your vehicle and how much they weigh. For most enclosed vehicles, that’s typically no more than four cylinders weighing 90 pounds total. Always secure them upright during transport, using straps, tie-downs or a stabilizer to help prevent them from tipping or shifting. Make sure to close their valves tightly, even if you believe the tanks are empty. Go directly to your destination and unload immediately upon arrival, and do not leave any cylinder in a hot vehicle. Inspect and store them outdoors in a cool, well-ventilated area.

What happens if my propane tank doesn’t pass inspection?

Refills are not possible for tanks that are old, rusty or damaged, or that have missing collars, foot rings or other parts. Be advised, if your tank leaks after filling it, and you plan to transport it in an enclosed vehicle, releasing it to you is prohibited.
