While Wyandottes were first developed in New York State in the early 1870's, Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes originated some time later. Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte Chickens aren't all show with their elegantly patterned black and brown feathers. They are also great egg layers of cream to light tan eggs and are good winter layers. The Wyandotte hens begin to lay between 5-6 months of age with adequate daylight hours. These blue-laced red hens can be broody and if allowed to sit, and make excellent mothers. Famous for their docile friendly nature, showy good looks and dual-purpose utility, these Wyandotte chickens remain popular today. Rose combs, fluffy, dense plumage and good body size make them well suited to cold climates. Wyandottes are one of the most strikingly beautiful chickens to grace a backyard flock. They are an excellent dual-purpose breed particularly suited for cold winters and are a great addition to any flock.
