While Wyandottes were first developed in New York State in the early 1870's, Golden Laced Wyandottes originated in Wisconsin some time later. These lacy girls aren't all show with their elegantly patterned black and brown feathers. They are also great egg layers of cream to light tan eggs and are good winter layers. Hen begin to lay between 5-6 months of age with adequate daylight hours. They can be broody and if allowed to sit, make excellent mothers. Famous for their docile friendly nature, showy good looks and dual-purpose utility they remain popular today. Their rose combs, plumage and good body size make them well suited to cold climates. Wyandottes are one of the most strikingly beautiful chickens to grace a backyard flock. They are an excellent dual-purpose breed particularly suited for cold winters and are a great addition to any flock.
