Vetsulin U-40 VetPen Cartridges are used to administer insulin to pets diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. There are 10 cartridges of porcine insulin zinc suspension included. This medication helps reduce hyperglycemia and other associated clinical signs of diabetes. It is considered an intermediate acting insulin.</li><li>Vetsulin has two activity peaks after administration in dogs - one around 4 hours and another around 11. Activity duration varies, but is typically 14 to 24 hours.</li><li>In cats, the activity peak occurs between 1.5 and 8 hours, and activity duration varies at 8 to 12 hours.</li><li>Peak activity, activity duration, and required dose to adequately control diabetic symptoms will all vary between patients.</li></ul><b>Special Precautions</b><ul><li>Effectiveness and safety have not been evaluated in kittens or puppies, or in lactating, pregnant, or breeding cats or dogs.</li><li>Product exposure could cause a systemic or local allergic reaction for sensitized individuals.</li><li>Seek immediate medical attention upon accidental injection. This can cause clinical hypoglycemia.</li><li>Avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, immediately begin flushing eyes for 15 minutes with copious amounts of water.</li><li>Vetsulin is not recommended during hypoglycemic periods.</li><li>Pets known to have systemic pork or pork product allergies should not be prescribed Vetsulin.</li><li>Keep out of reach of animals and children.</li></ul><b>Overdose Information</b><br><br>Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital or vet.<br><br><b>Side Effects</b><br><br>Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is the most common adverse reaction to insulin. This can be serious and life-threatening. It harm the brain or heart. Each mL contains: 40 IU of purified porcine insulin (35% amorphous and 65% crystalline), 7.0 mg of Sodium chloride, 1.36 mg of Sodium acetate trihydrate, 1.0 mg of Methylparaben (preservative), 0.08 mg of Zinc (as chloride). pH is adjusted with hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide.
